The City of Bellmead announced they were rewarded a $1.9 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant for road improvements.

The announcement was made Monday morning outside Sanderson Farms.

The grant will help with the $2.8 million replacement and expansion of Tirey Road in Bellmead. The project is expected to help with economic development, reduce traffic congestion and improve stormwater management in the area.

The EDA said it is one of the largest grants awarded to a community in recent history by the EDA.

Construction on the project is expected to begin late fall or early winter 2016 with an estimated completion date of nine to 12 months later.

Tirey Road will be widened from 20 feet to 40 feet and include drainage and safety improvements.
