Which would you prefer, a dry heat or humid heat? If you said humid heat, then you are in luck with the weather forecast this week!
Thanks to all the rain we received in the Spring, our soils are full of moisture and our grass hasn't been any greener. The trade off is now that June sun is blazing down on us, that moisture is evaporating out of the soils and lakes, thus increasing the amount of humidity. When you factor this into high temperatures in the 90s, you get heat index values over 100 degrees.
What exactly is the heat index? It measures how hot it really feels outside when relative humidity is factored in with the actual air temperature. Check out the chart in this story.
The forecast this week calls for high temperatures to creep up into the mid 90s, which will put heat index values between 103 and 107 degrees each afternoon. That is getting into a danger heat category! Here are some tips to remember when dealing with the heat.
What makes this heat wave worse is the fact it is not technically Summer yet! That officially begins June 20th. Stay cool!
