FORT HOOD, TX (KXXV) -

Fort Hood officials are holding a live conference regarding the death of five soldiers after their tactical vehicle overturned near a flooded creek Thursday morning.

Four soldiers were still missing as of Thursday night and presumed dead.

Twelve people were on board the light medium tactical vehicle when it overturned at the Owl Creek Tactical Low-Water Crossing on East Range Road around 11:30 a.m.

The five bodies were recovered from the water downstream from the vehicle. Names of the deceased will not be released until 24 hours after all next of kin have been notified.

Three soldiers were rescued and are in stable condition. On Thursday evening, they transported from Coryell Memorial Healthcare System in Gatesville to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center.

The soldiers are from the 3rd Battalion, 16th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division.

The vehicle the soldiers were in, an LMTV, can be used to carry cargo or soldiers. The front cab of the vehicle can carry three people, and often several soldiers can sit in the back ‘pick-up like’ portion.

In the past 12 years, several major incidents have impacted the post including an aircraft crash last November, a shooting in 2014 and a mass shooting in 2009.
