On Thursday, the Heart of Texas Human Trafficking Coalition meeting featured a detailed case study of McLennan County’s first human trafficking trial.

The case tried by a jury in March involved a 15-year-old girl who was trafficked for sex in McLennan County in 2015. Andre Evans, the convicted trafficker received 12 life sentences for child sex assault and trafficking.

The presenters during the roundtable meeting at the Antioch Community Church included McLennan County Assistant District Attorney Gabrielle Massey and a panel of law enforcement who collaborated with the case.

During the presentation, prosecutors spoke about the case before, during and after the trial.

"This is happening here. It's happening everywhere and she just wanted the jury to know this isn't just me. And if we can do anything with her story and what she has been through is to tell people to reach out and help other girls like her, said Massey.

This is the fifth meeting of the Heart of Texas Human Trafficking Coalition, first launched in January 2015. The coalition has more than 45 agencies.
