Two men will spend at least the next ten years in prison for kidnapping and beating a man in Waco nine months ago.

Jose Angel Maldonado and Angel Lee Torres took plea deals in 54th District Court Monday. In exchange for their guilty pleas on aggravated kidnapping charges, each man accepted a 20 year prison sentence. Since it’s an “aggravated” crime, both men must serve at least half their sentences before becoming eligible for parole.

On August 24, 2015, Maldonado and Torres pulled a knife on a 22-year-old man who was walking along Dutton Avenue forcing him into an SUV. Inside the vehicle, they beat the man in the face and head with a pistol. Maldonado and Torres were actually looking for their victim’s brother, and it was that man who alerted Waco Police about the kidnapping.

Later that night, officers tracked down the kidnappers’ SUV at a gas station on South Valley Mills Drive and arrested Maldonado and Torres.

The victim was taken to Baylor Scott and White at Hillcrest for the injuries he sustained in the beating.
