The City of Barlett is asking residents to boil their water before using after an isolated sample test of E. coli came back positive at a house in the 400 of Dalton.

“Bacterial contamination can occur when increased run-off enters the drinking water source (for example, following heavy rains). It can also happen due to a break in the distribution system (pipes) or a failure in the water treatment process,” said the city in a press release.

Residents are asked to boil water for drinking, brushing teeth, washing dishes and preparing food.

The city said it believed this came from a contaminated faucet. The faucet has been replaced and extra testing is being conducted.

Residents will be notified once tests results show no bacteria is present and the boil water is lifted.
