Birk Named SEC Player of the Week

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Texas A&M second baseman Ryne Birk was named the SEC Player of the Week the Southeastern Conference announced on Monday.

Birk batted .667 (8-for-12) on the weekend as the Aggies won two of three at No. 8 South Carolina. He registered a .692 on-base percentage and 1.250 slugging percentage against the Gamecocks, totaling five runs, one double, two home runs, four RBI and one stolen base for the series.

The junior logged multiple hits in all three contests, including three hits in both the Saturday and Sunday games. In the series opener, Birk went 2-for-3 and scored two of the Aggies’ three runs in a 3-0 win. On Saturday, he batted 3-for-4 with one double, one home run, three runs, two RBI and one stolen base as Texas A&M clinched the series with a 5-2 victory. In the finale, Birk went 3-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

Birk is batting .328 on the year with 40 runs, 11 doubles, four triples, seven home runs, 37 RBI and eight stolen bases.

It marks the fourth SEC weekly award for the Aggies with Nick Banks and Hunter Melton earning SEC Player of the Week honors in April and Kyle Simonds picking up SEC Pitcher of the Week recognition last week.
