The pilot of a crop duster plane died Saturday after his plane crashed in a field near West.

The McLennan County Sheriff's office said the plane went down around 1:45 p.m. off of East County Line Road East in West.

Officials say 75-year-old John Allen Seay Jr., of Glen Rose, was flying the plane when it hit a guy wire that was attached to a cell phone tower, causing the plane to crash.

Sheriff Parnell McNamara said the plane hit the ground hard and a fire ignited. Most of the plane was burned and a grass fire started after the plane crashed.

Officials say the pilot was the only person on board the plane and he was ejected from the plane. The pilot died at the scene.

The FAA is investigating.
