On Monday, Woodway city officials, staff and members of the Woodway Foundation inaugurated the installation of the first swing handicap swing set in the city.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony took place at Whitehall Park where the adaptive swing seat and the wheelchair swing platform are located.

Woodway Parks and Recreation Board Chairman Jim Edwards said the Woodway Foundation use grant funding to make the $7,000 project possible.

According to Edwards the project, which had been in the works for nearly a year, fills a need in the community.

"We found out there wasn't that much of a resource around the community for handicapped children so we felt like putting it here at Whitehall would be a good location  for people to use,” said Edwards. “We were more than gracious to do it."

The city has already received positive feedback from parents of the children who have enjoyed the swings so far.
