Generette, Shankle Earn NCAA Doubles Championship Bid

INDIANAPOLIS - Baylor women's tennis players Kiah Generette and Blair Shankle have been chosen to take part in the NCAA Doubles Championship starting May 25 in Tulsa, Okla.

The NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Subcommittee made the announcement Wednesday that the twosome was one of 21 at-large selections into the 32-team doubles draw. This is the third-consecutive season that the Bears have a doubles team in the NCAA draw.

The NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships will be held at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center May 25-30 in Tulsa, Okla., following the conclusion of team championship play.

Generette, a senior, and Shankle, a junior, are 16-6 overall and 12-5 in dual-match action. The pairing went 5-1 in Big 12 action and boast a 6-4 record against ranked foes. In the latest ITA rankings, the BU pairing was ranked No. 17.

Shankle has earned ITA All-America doubles honors in each of the past two years, advancing to the quarterfinals last season with partner Ema Burgic, after making the 2014 quarterfinals with partner Victoria Kisialeva.

As a team, the 39th-ranked Bears will make their 19th overall appearance in the NCAA Championships. Baylor will travel for the opening rounds of the event for just the second time in the last 11 years and the ninth time overall. BU will hit the court Friday, May 13, at noon CT to face 26th-ranked Wake Forest.
