Highlassies sweep North Central, secure second seed in region

The McLennan Highlassies swept the North Central Lady Lions this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark to secure the second seed in the Region V Tournament to be played next weekend.

The Highlassies run-ruled the Lady Lions in game one, winning 8-0 in five innings. Kayleigh Williams got the win in the circle, allowing only three hits and striking out nine in five innings.

McLennan scored six runs in the fourth. Victoria Gonzales singled and scored on a double by Serena Saldviar. Elizabeth Svienty was safe at first on a Lady Lion error, bringing Saldivar in to score. Svienty stole second and came around to score on another error that put Andrea Gonzales on second. Makayla Hernandez bunted for a single, bringing Andrea Gonzales in to score. Angelina Camacho singled and Theresa Gonzales drew a walk, loading the bases. Victoria Gonzales then singled to score Hernandez and Camacho.

The Highlassies sealed the win with two runs in the bottom of the fifth. Hernandez singled,  Camacho walked and Dariann Resendez singled to load the bases. Marisa Flores followed with a walk-off double, scoring Hernandez and Camacho to end the game.

McLennan needed two extra innings to defeat North Central 6-5 in the nightcap. Williams picked up the win in the circle. 

North Central scored all five of their runs in the top of the first inning. Brooke Ford drew a lead-off walk, Molly Dolezel was safe on a McLennan error and Megan Durante bunted to load the bases. Rylee Hodges followed with a single to score Ford. Hailie Henson followed with a grand slam.

The Highlassies got on the board with three runs in the fourth. Victoria Gonzales, Elizabeth Svienty and Andrea Gonzales all singled, loading the bases. Victoria Gonzales came in to score on a ground out by Hernandez. Camacho then singled to score Svienty and Andrea Gonzales.

McLennan tied the game with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Flores singled but was out at second on a fielder's choice by Theresa Gonzales. Victoria Gonzales followed with a single. Svienty then doubled to score Flores and Victoria Gonzales. 

The Highlassies scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth. Resendez drew a walk and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Flores. Theresa Gonzales singled, moving Resendez to third. Resendez then scored on a sacrifice fly by Victoria Gonzales. 

McLennan draws a first-round bye for the Region V North Tournament. They will play either the third seed or sixth seed at 5 p.m. Friday at The Ballfields at Craig Ranch in McKinney.
