UMHB SOFTBALL FALLS TO BELHAVEN

Jackson, Mississippi – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team was held to just two hits as the Cru fell to Belhaven University 5-0 in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday in Jackson, Mississippi. The loss drops UMHB to 19-19 on the season while the Blazers improves to 30-6 on the year with the victory. Games against Belhaven do not count in the American Southwest Conference softball standings.

Myranda Hinojosa led off the game with a double and advanced to third base before she was stranded, but the Cru was held to just one hit the rest of the way and had only one more base runner advance past second base. Belhaven scored the game’s first run on a UMHB throwing error in the bottom of the third and added a run on a Makenzie Hawkins RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Blazers tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to put the game out of reach.

Karen Tennis took the loss for UMHB to drop to 10-12 on the season. Julienne Broussard tossed a complete-game, two-hitter for Belhaven to improve to 12-2 on the year. Hinojosa and Karley Free had hits for the Cru and UMHB pitchers held the Blazers to just seven hits in the contest.

The Cru will now advance to the ASC Championship Tournament as the #5 seed. UMHB will open the tournament with a 1:00 PM game against LeTourneau University on Thursday in Tyler. The Cru and Yellowjackets split a four-game series early in the regular season.
