Eighth-ranked Highlassies sweep Vernon

The eighth-ranked McLennan Highlassies swept the Vernon Lady Chaparrals this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
 
The Highlassies run-ruled the Lady Chaparrals 11-2 in game one with Kayleigh Williams picking up the win in the circle and Vannessa Castro getting the save.
 
McLennan began the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the third. Angelina Camacho drew a lead-off walk. Makayla Hernandez followed with a single, moving Camacho around to third. A double steal brought Camacho in to score and put Hernandez on second. Andrea Gonzales singled to score Hernandez. Elizabeth Svienty singled and Andrea Gonzales was thrown out at second. Svienty advanced to second on a fly out by Marisa Flores and scored on a single by Theresa Gonzales.
 
Vernon’s two runs came in the top of the fifth. LeeAnn Peacock was safe at first on a bunt and moved to second on a ground out by Dahlia Davila. Savannah Burkhalter and Elizabeth Glancy both walked, loading the bases. Madison Sims also walked, bringing Peacock in to score. Burkhalter then stole home.
 
The Highlassies sealed the win with eight runs in the bottom of the fifth. Flores singled and Theresa Gonzales doubled. Dariann Resendez was safe at first on a Vernon error, bringing Flores in to score. Haley Webre followed with a single to score Theresa Gonzales, and Victoria Gonzales doubled to score Resendez and Webre. Hernandez followed with a double, scoring Victoria Gonzales. Andrea Gonzales bunted for a single. Hernandez came around to score on another Vernon error. Svienty singled and Flores walked to load the bases. Theresa Gonzales followed with a double to score Andrea Gonzales and Svienty to end the game.
 
McLennan shutout Vernon 8-0 in game two with Chanlynn Turner getting the win in the circle and  Castro getting another save.
 
The Highlassies scored two runs in the second. Serena Saldivar singled and stole second. Camacho bunted for a single, advancing Saldivar to third. Camacho then stole second. Both runners scored on a double by Svienty.
 
McLennan added a run in the third as Theresa Gonzales doubled, moved to third on a fly out by Resendez and scored on a fly out by Victoria Gonzales.
 
The Highlassies secured the run-rule victory with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Theresa Gonzales led off with a double, stole third and scored on a triple by Resendez. Victoria Gonzales was safe on a bunt. The double steal brought Resendez in to score and advanced Victoria Gonzales to second. Saldivar followed with a single to score Victoria Gonzales. Pinch hitter Rachel Ripley followed with the two-run, walk-off home run.
