Baylor Baseball Loses Big 12 Opener to Texas Tech

WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball dropped a 5-0 decision to Texas Tech in the teams’ Big 12 opener on Friday afternoon at Baylor Ballpark.  The Bears (7-10, 0-1) were unable to get much going on offense against the Red Raiders’ (11-6, 1-0) pitching staff that allowed only six hits and three walks.

In a pitcher’s duel through the first three innings, Texas Tech finally got the scoring started in the fourth inning.  A leadoff double by Cory Raley turned into a run on Tanner Gardner’s single.  Then in the fifth, another leadoff double by Stephen Smith scored on a Tyler Neslony single.

In the eighth and ninth innings, TTU put the game out of reach off BU reliever Andrew McInvale.  The Red Raiders scored a run on a walk and three hits in the eighth and two runs in the ninth on two hits and a pair of fielder’s choices.

TTU starter Davis Martin (2-0) earned the win by allowing two hits and two walks with four strikeouts in six scoreless innings.  BU starter Daniel Castano (2-2) took a tough loss, giving up two runs on seven hits and two walks with seven strikeouts in seven innings.
