The gas pumps outside of a West Waco convenience store were out of service for part of Tuesday after a diesel fuel spill.

At 2:30 p.m, on Tuesday, no traffic was allowed near the pumps at the Sunoco on Bagby Ave. and New Road. At 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday, crews were working on the clean-up. At that time, almost half of the gas pumps remained closed off to customers. At least eight of the gas pumps were operational and available for customers to use.

According to the Waco Fire Department, the diesel fuel started leaking out of a pump after one of the seals blew off due to a mechanical failure at 7:30 a.m. When firefighters were called to the scene around 2 p.m., the amount of the diesel fuel spill was unknown.

An environmental agency was called to the scene to assist.

No one was injured during this incident, according to the Waco Fire Dept.

Stripes, the convenience store, near the gas station, remained open on Tuesday night.
