HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A city so important in the field of space exploration and research, Huntsville mourned the loss of seven astronauts one January morning in 1986 with particular shock and pain.

An explosion claimed the lives of mission commander Dick Scobee, payload specialist Gregory Jarvis, mission specialists Judith Resnik, Ronald McNair, Ellison Onizuka, pilot Mike Smith, and Teacher-in-Space payload specialist Christa McAuliffe.
