(RNN) - Steam or hot contents that escaped from Breville pressure cookers and reportedly burned people prompted the manufacturer to recall 35,600 of them sold nationwide and to offer users free replacement lid gaskets and new instructions.
Consumers should immediately stop using the Breville 6-quart capacity pressure cookers with the model number BPR600XL and batch numbers between 1235 and 1529, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission said Tuesday in a recall alert. The model number and batch code are on the bottoms of the stainless steel pressure cookers.
If the sealing gasket is inserted upside down on the lid, built-up pressure can be released unexpectedly.
Breville USA said it has received reports that five incidents of escaping steam or hot contents have caused burns to a stomach, hands or arms.
The company said consumers can obtain a new sealing gasket and instructions by phoning 800-983-3165 or by completing an online form at brevilleusa.com/lidrecall.
The CPSC requests that consumers report incidents concerning the pressure cookers either online at SaferProducts.gov or by phone at 800-638-2772.
