Baylor Softball's Thumann Named Senior CLASS Award All-American

Senior outfielder among 10 honored on distinguished senior team

WACO, Texas – Baylor's Kaitlyn Thumann earned 2015 Senior CLASS Award First-Team All-America honors Wednesday after she was a top-10 finalist for Senior CLASS Player of the Year this season.

Florida State's Lacey Waldrop was the overall award winner, but she was joined by Thumann, Oklahoma's Shelby Pendley, Kentucky's Griffin Joiner and Minnesota's Kaitlyn Richardson as First-Team honorees.

Georgia State's Callie Alford, South Alabama's Farish Beard, UCLA's Ally Carda, California's Cheyenne Cordes, and Florida's Kathlyn Medina were Second-Team selections.

Thumann was among 30 candidates for the award that honored NCAA Division I softball seniors that are chosen for achievements in community, classroom, character and competition. In April she was announced as one of 10 finalists for the honor. The Senior CLASS award stands for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School. The award is in its 10th year of existence and inspired by CBS sports broadcaster Dick Enberg. Premier Sports Management manages the award out of Overland Park, Kan.

Thumann and the Bears finished the season as the NCAA Lafayette Regional runner up in Baylor's 10th appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Thumann finished her Baylor career with the third-best batting average in school history (.369), was second all-time in runs scored (157), second in doubles (44) and fourth in on-base percentage (.464).

Thumann earned NFCA All-Region honors in her junior and senior seasons along with All-Big 12 honors in each of her last two years. She was the eighth player in program history to be drafted professionally when the Dallas Charge selected her in the sixth round of the NFP College Draft in April. She helped Baylor to its third Women's College World Series appearance as a junior in 2014.
