95 MPH winds ravage Hamilton County home

HAMILTON COUNTY, TX (KXXV) - As much of Central Texas braces for more rain, others are still reeling from Sunday's storms. The Hamilton County community of Shive, northwest of Gatesville, was hit especially hard.

Winds reached speeds close to 100 miles per hour just as the Adams were sitting down for an early Mother's Day dinner.

Bill Adams says, "It blew the doors open and we basically got in a hallway, in a bathroom area, and in a matter of 20 seconds it was all over. 15, 20 seconds happens pretty fast so there's no excitement. That's just how fast it happens."

What the family thought was a tornado turned out to be straight line winds, but that doesn't make them any less devastating.

Adams says, "In about 5 minutes we had neighbors showing up and the whole neighborhood ended up here in about 30 or 40 minutes. We're well taken care of by the neighborhood."

The Adams' home is unlivable right now, but being displaced is something they're taking in stride.

Adams says, "The fact that you can put it all back and nobody's hurt makes it not a real problem."

The family is insured and they have an RV they can live in while their house is repaired. They expect to move back in a few weeks.
