Local Harley Davidson dealership sponsors military outreach event

WACO, TX (KXXV) - Dozens of veterans and active duty service members turned out to a local Harley Davidson dealership for a veteran outreach event over the weekend.

Riders from all over came out for the free music, food, and vendors. The outreach effort was aimed at younger veterans and active duty service members.

Event organizers hope connecting veterans together will ultimately help lower the veteran suicide rate.

"Everywhere we go we feel disconnected. So events like this are important so that we know we're not alone and it gives us hope," said Aaron Nunn, Waco One Stop Program Manager. "And when you have hope you're less likely to take it out on yourself."

This was the inaugural event and organizers hope to host more in the future. The event was sponsored by Adam Smith Harley Davidson in Waco and manager Steve McCollum is happy to help out the veterans.

"Seeing the Veterans One Stop and what they to help veterans, to have peer support, to be able to help them get jobs or help the homeless veterans, anything way that we can back them we will," said McCollum.
