Area home invasion leaves suspected robber dead, resident injured

FREESTONE COUNTY, TX (KXXV) - The Freestone County Sheriff's Department is investigating a home invasion near Teague early Monday morning that left a suspected robber dead and the resident in critical condition. Two teens are also in custody.

The incident happened about 1:30 a.m. at a private home off Highway 84, west of Teague.

Initial reports indicate three teens forced their way into the home, and at least one of them was armed.

The homeowner was shot in the stomach. He was also armed and returned fire at the robbers, shooting one of the suspects, who then fled.

19-year-old Joshua Mulkey was found dead just outside the home. Two 18-year-olds, O'Jarion McClenon and Lawson Abram, were taken into custody after being found nearby. They are in the Freestone County Jail each facing a count of aggravated robbery.

The homeowner, identified as 45-year-old Doug Hurst, was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest in Waco in critical condition.
