Baylor to hold memorial concert for 2 students killed in wreck

WACO, TX (KXXV) - The Baylor School of Music will host a memorial concert to honor two of their students killed in a wreck back in July.

Jack Stewart and Laura Onwudinanti died when a pickup they were in went off the road and hit a tree on Highway 7 on July 29. Stewart was an upcoming sophomore studying music education and Onwudinanti was a 2014 Baylor graduate with a degree in music education, who was going to go to graduate school at the University of Michigan.

The memorial concert in their honor will be held in Jones Concert Hall at 3 p.m. on Sunday, September 7.

“This concert will reflect the lives of Laura and Jack because it will be about faith and about music,” professor of orchestral studies and conductor-in-residence at Baylor University Stephen Heyde said in a statement. “Those elements defined Laura and Jack – they were both committed Christians, and both were wonderfully gifted musicians.”

Passenger Megan Taylor Ritzi, 18, and driver Jacob Travis Hale, 21, of Fort Worth, were also in the pickup and were taken to the hospital following the wreck. Hale suffered non-life threatening injuries and was released from the hospital a few days after the crash.

Incoming Baylor freshman Megan Ritzi was transferred from Baylor Scott & White in Temple to a rehab facility in Dallas on August 13.

The accident occurred while the four were on their way to ClarinetFest 2014, where they were scheduled to perform.

For more information on this concert, call the Baylor School of Music at (254) 710-3991.
