Wilsonart Lays off 57 Employees from Temple Facility

TEMPLE, TX (KXXV) - Wilsonart laid off nearly 60 people from its manufacturing facility on Wednesday.

According to Wilsonart spokeswoman Alison DeMartino, the company did not target specific people.

She said the positions were eliminated after some older skills are not needed in the company anymore. DeMartino said it wants to implement new skills to move forward.

Former employees will receive severance pay. They will also be able to apply for new positions within the company.

Demartino sent this full statement:

“Today, Wilsonart International announced that it will eliminate certain positions throughout its North America operations as part of a strategic restructuring. These decisions that involve our people are difficult and we do not make them lightly. Over the next few days, Wilsonart will work closely with employees who are impacted by this restructuring.

New markets and customers, new processes, and a focus on bringing value to our customers mean that our business needs are different today than they were yesterday. We have looked closely at parts of the business that can be restructured for efficiency and cost improvement. At the same time, we are making significant investments in talents, products, and service that allow us to grow. These fuel our transformation to a global supplier of engineered surfaces.

Our industry is changing around us. Customers want quality products, delivered faster and at a competitive price. Innovation comes from everywhere at the speed of the internet. As an industry leader, Wilsonart is committed to being the best in all these areas. These business shifts help make Wilsonart a healthier business that can grow.”
