Man on probation cuts ankle monitor, then drives to Arkansas in RV

MCLENNAN COUNTY - A man on probation, who was wearing an electronic monitoring ankle bracelet, has been arrested after cutting off the ankle monitor and taking it with him as he drove to Arkansas in an RV.

Charles Michael Hatcher has been charged with theft over $1,500 for the incident because he cut off the bracelet and took it with him.

According to Captain Bubba Colyer with the McLennan County Sheriff's Office, Hatcher said he got a better job offer in Arkansas and decided to go. He had been on probation for a DWI charge in McLennan County.

Colyer says Hatcher cut off the monitor, but then threw it in his RV while driving to Arkansas. The ankle monitor continued to provide location information during the trip and up to the time he entered an Arkansas RV park, until the battery eventually went dead.

Investigators were able to track him to that location and local Arkansas authorities arrested him on the warrant out of McLennan County.
