Man indicted in Little River-Academy police chief's death
TEMPLE, Texas (AP) - A 57-year-old man who formerly worked in law enforcement has been indicted in the fatal shooting of a police chief in the small Central Texas town of Little River-Academy.
A Bell County grand jury indicted David Gene Risner on Wednesday on one count of capital murder of a peace officer in the June 19 death of Chief Lee Dixon. Risner is in jail on no bond. Jail records don't list an attorney.
Risner is accused of killing Lee when the chief went to talk to him after a person filed a complaint saying Risner pulled a gun during a dispute.
Risner served in law enforcement for almost 19 years. His most recent position was with Grand Saline police, where his tenure ended in 2005.
