Community focuses on future after fire in downtown Lott

A community in Falls County is recovering after fire destroyed a historic building there Wednesday night.  The call came in around 9:30 pm. and crews found that a dentist's office was on fire in downtown Lott.

Members from every fire department in Falls County showed up to help.

Deanna Pomykal owns the building with her husband.  She says, "All the firemen that were here were volunteers.  I mean, they were taking time away from their family, their sleep and they were here all for us."

Lott Mayor Annita Tindle says, "Those folks that weren't working in putting out the fire were passing out water, they were picking up things, they were doing what they could.  So we came together as a community and that's what it's all about."

It took about four hours to tame the blaze, but crews stayed on through the night and most of Thursday putting out hot spots.

Incredibly, the dentist's office was the only building destroyed.  The others can be salvaged.  One even opened for business today.

Pomykal says, "No one got hurt, the buildings are still standing and we're just going to take it one day at a time and we hope to be able to rebuild."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
