CORTLANDT MANOR, N.Y., Aug. 12, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- Hudson Valley Center for Digestive Health (HVCDH) is hosting an Open House in celebration of National ASC Day on August 14th, by raising awareness of the importance of colon cancer screening and about the high-quality, cost-efficient care ASCs provide to patients in the Cortlandt Manor community.

Representatives from HVCDH will be hosting an Open House on Thursday, August 14th from 2pm-6pm at the center located on the grounds of Hudson Valley Hospital Center at 1978 Crompond Road, Suite 105 (1st floor)  in Cortlandt Manor. Staff will be available to answer any GI related health questions.  Administrative staff will be available to answer any questions about the ASC facility.

The administrative and medical staff at HCVDH takes very seriously the responsibility to help spread the colon cancer awareness message to the Hudson Valley community. The mission of all Physicians Endoscopy partnered centers is to not only bring quality gastroenterological care to our communities, but on a more basic level, to help bring colon cancer awareness to all of the people in the communities that these centers serve.

"National ASC Day is not only a great opportunity to remind people of the importance of colon cancer screening, but to introduce them to the wonderful resource of a community outpatient ASC like HVCDH where they will receive excellent care in a state-of-the-art facility, " said Dr.  Eric Teitel, Co-Medical Director at HVCDH. "Colorectal cancer is the number two cancer killer in the United States.  Colon cancer screening, with a colonoscopy, can actually prevent colon cancer through detection and removal of precancerous growths, or polyps, that grow in the colon.  Unfortunately, only half of those who are eligible actually get screened. Through our efforts to educate both patients and their primary care physicians, we hope to encourage more people to get screened. If we have done that, then we have made a difference.  People of all backgrounds and income levels need to know the risks and to get the proper screening if we are to eradicate this disease. We at HVCDH feel a responsibility to make sure that happens."

HVCDH, a state-of-the-art facility in every respect is a joint venture with four local physicians, Hudson Valley Hospital Center and Physicians Endoscopy (PE) and serves over 3,500 patients annually.
