Fifth straight season BU will be featured on Big Monday
IRVING, Texas – For a fifth consecutive season, Baylor will be featured as part of ESPN’s Big Monday platform. The Bears’ will play at Texas on March 2, and the game will tip off at 8 p.m. CT, the Big 12 Conference office announced Monday.
Baylor’s game at Texas will be part of a new “flex pick” by the network, in which two Big 12 games will be played at the same time, with one on ESPN and the other on ESPNU. Oklahoma at Iowa State will also tip at 8 p.m. on March 2, and the network designation will be determined in the weeks leading up to the games.
BU went 1-1 in Big Monday games last season, dropping a Jan. 20 game at Kansas and winning an overtime thriller at home against Oklahoma State on Feb. 17. The Bears are now 4-8 all-time on Big Monday, but that includes a 3-3 record in their last six appearances. Baylor is 1-6 in Big Monday road games, with the lone win at Texas in 2012. This will mark the third time in the last four seasons that Baylor’s game at Texas will be featured on Big Monday.
All nine of the Big 12 Conference’s Big Monday games will be televised ESPN networks and available on WatchESPN.
Baylor played its first Big Monday game in 2001, and the Bears appeared on the platform two times during the 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014 seasons and three times in 2013. The Bears have faced Kansas six times (1-5), Texas three times (1-2), Oklahoma State (2-0) twice and Kansas State (0-1) once.
The Big 12 sent a nation’s-best seven teams to the NCAA Tournament a year ago and was rated as the No. 1 conference in the country in RPI during the regular season. Baylor and Iowa State advanced deeper in the tournament than any other Big 12 team, with both winning two games to reach the Sweet 16.
The full Big 12 Conference schedule is slated to be released in the coming weeks.
