WACO, TX (KXXV) - A suspected drunk driver has been arrested after causing major damage in a Waco neighborhood after driving off the road.

That driver slammed into not one, but two neighborhood churches just before 8:30 p.m. Saturday night in the 1500 block of Maple Drive and 15th Street.

Police arrested 62-year-old Socorro Marquez for driving while intoxicated. He was taken to a hospital for a precaution, before going to the McLennan County Jail. No one was injured in the crash.

Authorities say Marquez was tailgating another car and swerved to avoid hitting the other driver.

Vincent Mendez, who lives in the neighborhood and witnessed the crash, says he heard the collision and then came running outside to see what happened.

"The white truck was going too fast and by the time he tried to slow down he ended up ramming into the white church on this side and eh backed up ended up spinning into the one behind," says Mendez.

Fortunately, no one was injured in the crash.

Police say they've contacted the owners of the churches.

Both Creator Christian Tabernacle Church, located at 1506 Maple Drive and Victory In Praise Ministries, at 1501 Maple Drive, suffered major structural damage.

Mendez says after the accident, members of the churches rushed over to see the damage. Then he says they prayed together.

Utilities for both buildings were shut off because of the major structural damage.
