Crews find body of elderly woman after fire destroys Hill County home, arson suspected

HILL COUNTY, TX (KXXV) - Fire crews have found the body of an elderly woman in a Hill County house that was destroyed by a fire Wednesday. The fire is being investigated as an arson.

Multiple fire units were dispatched to a house fire in the 100 block of 2nd St., outside of Whitney, shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Law enforcement at the scene confirmed they were told a woman was inside the double wide mobile home. Firefighters on scene could not enter the home because of the heat and flames. The fire was contained about 10:45 a.m., and a search of the house was started.

Crews say that two elderly women were inside the home when the fire started, but only one was able to get out. She was able to go to a neighbor's home and call 911.

The woman's body was found at the back of the trailer. Authorities say it was burned beyond recognition, and has been sent to Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office to help confirm the identity. The name will not be released until next of kin has been notified.

The Hill County Sheriff's Office has its own internal fire investigator who is working the case. The Hill County Sheriff's Office is investigating the fire as an arson, based on information gathered at the scene.
