Soldier's Family Receives Life Insurance Policy Funds

FORT HOOD, TX (KXXV) - The family of a deceased Fort Hood soldier received his military life insurance policy with the assistance of a U.S. congressman, according to statement released Monday.

Sgt. Ryan Dickinson's family was at risk of not receiving the proceeds of his military life insurance policy. According to a statement from congressman Tim Bishop (D-New York), Dickinson was in the process of upgrading his disability rating. This would have given him extra time to convert his life insurance to a veteran's policy, if granted within a year of discharge. Congressman Tim Bishop said he convinced the Veterans Administration to reinstate his policy.

Sgt. Dickinson who was honorably discharged in 2012, was shot and killed at a Fort Hood housing unit in September of 2013. The incident did not involve a military operation and started during a disturbance that began at the housing unit.
