WACO - Waco police arrested a man after they found five pounds of marijuana and a handgun that police say he admitted were his.

Willie Lee Rivers has been charged with possession of marijuana over five pounds in a drug free zone and possession of a firearm by a felon.

According to Sgt. Patrick Swanton with Waco PD, detectives spotted Rivers driving a car on Cleveland Ave. Wednesday afternoon. Knowing he does not have a drivers license, police stopped him. Police recovered an ammunition magazine loaded with forty caliber rounds in the car, along with marijuana residue.

Police saw that Rivers had come out of an apartment in the 1100 block of Cleveland Ave. They went to the apartment and found his girlfriend there. They searched the apartment and found a cooler with over five pounds of marijuana and digital scales inside, along with a handgun.

Sgt. Swanton says Rivers made a statement to the officers, admitting the drugs and handgun were his.
