Fort Hood Soldier Dies in Texas Hospital

FORT HOOD, TX (KXXV) - A 20-year-old Fort Hood soldier died on Thursday after an illness sustained in Afghanistan.

Pfc. Donnell Antwain Hamilton Jr. of Kenosha, Wisconsin, passed away on Thursday at the Brooke Army Medical Center at Joint Base San Antonio.

Hamilton went on active duty in October of 2012 as an M1 armor crewman. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 5th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, since April 2013. He was deployed from July of 2013 to March of 2014.

Hamilton's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with campaign star, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Army Service Ribbon.
