UMHB NAMES NATHANIEL HOGGE TO FOOTBALL COACHING STAFF

Belton, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football program has added Nathaniel Hogge to the coaching staff as a full-time assistant, Cru Head Coach Pete Fredenburg announced today. Hogge will primarily be responsible for working with the running backs and will also assist offensive coordinator Cody Fredenburg with game-planning.

Hogge comes to UMHB from Fork Union Military Academy in Virginia, where he spent the last two seasons as an assistant coach. Hogge was the offensive coordinator for a Fork Union team that went 7-3 and averaged 35 points per game in 2013. He was the team’s receivers coach in 2012. Prior to joining Fork Union, Hogge spent four seasons as an assistant coach at The Citadel. He worked with wide receivers, tight ends and the offensive line during his tenure and also served as The Citadel’s recruiting coordinator in 2010 and 2011. Hogge was a graduate assistant at Oklahoma State University from 2005-2007, working with the offensive line and offensive quality control. Cody Fredenburg was also graduate assistant at OSU during that time and the Cowboys led the Big 12 in rushing in 2007. Hogge also served two years as a graduate assistant at the University of North Carolina, spending one year on each side the ball. He started his coaching career as a student assistant at Elon University in North Carolina for the 2002 season.

“When you bring in someone from the outside, they can bring in ideas and philosophies they have picked up along the way,” Cru Head Coach Pete Fredenburg said. “Nathaniel’s experience will help bring us some new perspective and give our kids another way of looking at things. We are excited to have the opportunity to bring someone of his caliber to our staff.”

Hogge is a 2002 graduate of Elon University with a double major in communications. He also played four years of football for the Phoenix as an offensive lineman.

“I’m super excited because this is a great opportunity to come to place with such a great tradition of success.” Hogge said. “I’m looking forward to continuing that tradition and having a chance to work with so many guys I already knew. I’ve known Cody for ten years and it is great to work with him. I’m also looking forward to the chance to learn from Pete Fredenburg and use that experience to continue to grow as a coach. There is nothing like Texas football and I am so excited to be a part of it.”

Hogge fills the full-time vacancy created when Jeff Shinn resigned to accept a coaching job at Smithson Valley High School earlier this month. Cody Fredenburg was promoted to offensive coordinator to replace Shinn at that time. The Cru football team is coming off a 13-1 season and the 2014 edition of the UMHB football team will report to campus on August 13th.
