Little League Softball Southwest Regional to Begin July 26

Waco, TX – The Little League Softball Southwest Regional Tournament starts this week at the George W. Bush Little League Leadership Training Center and Southwest Regional Complex in Waco, Texas. The double elimination format tournament will begin play on Saturday, July 26, 2014 and conclude with the Championship Game at 11:00AM on Wednesday, July 30, 2014. For the first time ever a Little League Softball regional game will be televised with the Southwest Regional Championship game being televised on the Longhorn Network.

Six teams representing five states from the Southwest Region will be competing for the chance to play in the Little League Softball World Series in Portland, Oregon on August 7-13, 2014. From the state of Arkansas, Malvern Youth Little League from Malvern, Arkansas; from the state of Colorado, Rawlings Softball Little League from Pueblo, Colorado; from the state of Louisiana, Bossier Little League from Bossier City, Louisiana; from the state of New Mexico, Silver City Little League from Silver City, New Mexico; from Texas East, Bryan Harvey Little League from Bryan, Texas; from Texas West, Robinson Little League from Robinson, Texas. All of these teams have won their respective state championships in order to qualify for the Little League Softball Southwest Regional Tournament.

Each year the Little League Softball Southwest Regional Tournament brings an estimated $100,000 to Waco and Central Texas. Each of the six teams brings family, friends, and fans to support their team and the local economy. 

To kick off the tournament an opening ceremonies celebration will be held on Saturday, July 26 at 4:00 PM on the softball field at the Little League Southwest Regional Complex. Games will begin on Saturday, July 26 as Bossier Little League faces Malvern Youth Little League at 5:30PM and Silver City Little League takes on Robinson Little League at 8:00PM. All games will be held at the Little League Southwest Regional Complex at 3700 South University Parks Drive in Waco, Texas.  Admission to the Southwest Regional Softball Tournament is free of charge and open to the public.

    Baylor men’s tennis has been named an ITA All-Academic Team for the 10th consecutive year, announced by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tuesday. The organization also named Jimmy Bendeck, Luke De Jong, Will Little, Bjoern Petersen and Tyler Stayer as ITA Scholar-Athletes. Dating back to the 2008 season, Baylor has been recognized each year as a team and had at least two players recognized by the organization.     The Baylor women’s tennis program was recognized for its academic accomplishments by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) this week. Baylor is one of 195 women’s tennis teams to garner a 2017 ITA All-Academic Team award, which recognizes programs that maintain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.20 or higher throughout the year.
