Pedestrian in hospital after being hit by Killeen officer

KILLEEN, TX (KXXV) - An 18-year-old man was airlifted to Scott & White early Wednesday morning after being hit by a Killeen officer who was responding to a call.

The auto-pedestrian accident happened just after midnight July 23, at the intersection of Veterans Memorial Blvd. and 38th. Police say the officer was responding to a call and was eastbound on Veterans Memorial Boulevard.

Investigators say the officer had the green light, when the 18-year-old stepped out in front of the car, walking south to cross the street. The officer reportedly took evasive action and investigators report the officer avoided hitting the pedestrian directly, but did clip him.

The pedestrian then fell into the street, and was later airlifted to Scott & White with broken bones and other injuries. His condition is unknown at this time.
