Man involved in fatal crash on I-35 identified

MCLENNAN COUNTY, TX (KXXV) - Traffic was backed up for miles after a fatal crash on southbound I-35 near exit 349, south of West, Thursday morning.

The vehicles involved in the wreck, were an 18-wheeler, and a Chevy Blazer, according to DPS. The Blazer ended up on its top, and a lot of debris from the contents inside of the Blazer was scattered on the road.

DPS reports the accident happened just after 5 a.m. Thursday, in the southbound lanes of I-35, near exit 349. A blue Chevy Blazer was driving very fast, and troopers believe the driver lost control, and ran into an 18-wheeler.

The Blazer then bounced off the truck and against a retaining wall, and then hit another wall, before flipping over.

The driver of the Blazer, identified as 56-year-old Johnnie Rudolph Krizan of West, was pronounced dead at the scene. The truck driver didn't have any injuries. No one else was inside the Blazer.

As of 8 a.m., traffic was reduced to one lane as DPS investigated the crash.
