Rabies found in bat on Fort Hood

FORT HOOD, TX (KXXV) -

A fourth case of rabies in the past three months has been confirmed on Fort Hood.

The Fort Hood Veterinary Center (VETCEN) was notified Thursday that a bat found near the Department of Public Works motorpool, building 4001, tested positive for rabies.

The animal was euthanized and submitted for further testing.

On May 12, a skunk found near Motorpool Road tested positive for the disease.

The second case was on May 16 and involved a kitten that attacked a resident on post.

On June 6, a young fox was found near Clarke Road and tested positive.

If you notice any animals acting strangely, call Military Police at (254) 287-4001.

Anyone who thinks they've already come in contact with an infected animal should immediately seek treatment at Carl R. Darnall Medical Center.
