Temple child swept down creek safe

An elementary school age child who was swept away by a rain-swollen creek, was found safe after he was able to pull himself out of the water Tuesday.

Temple Fire & Rescue, police and Scott & White EMS responded to a report of a child in a creek in the 1000 block of North 12th Street just after 3 p.m. Tuesday.

An older sibling had called for help after his brother tried to cross the water-filled creek near there.  The fast moving water knocked him off his feet and carried him downstream, but he was able to grab a low lying branch and pull himself to safety on the opposite side of that creek.

The child was walking back home when firefighters found him.  He reunited with his family and was taken to a hospital for evaluation, according to Temple Fire & Rescue.
