Two former VFW employees file police reports alleging sexual assault

Posted:
KILLEEN - Two former Benjamin O. Davis VFW Post 9191 employees have filed police reports alleging sexual assault at the establishment located on Zephyr Rd. in Killeen.

The women said a senior vice manager of the VFW, which operates separately from the canteen, allegedly grabbed their rears when greeting them.

Video footage obtained by News Channel 25 shows the victim, a former bar manager, interacting with the alleged aggressor.

“I was at the end of the bar, he approached me. Gave me a side hug and a kiss on the temple, which was out of the ordinary,” explained the former bar manager. “We don’t exchange, nonetheless, even conversations. As he let go of the hugging part, he decided to let go and grope my rear. And I moved, I completely moved.”

The alleged assault happened in April, and she immediately reported the assault to the VFW commander, and police. Shortly after, she said they fired her.

"She asked me to leave my keys on the counter, because I refused to stay quiet."

Another former employee, a former bartender, said something similar happened to her in both April and May.

“Basically I would give him a hug, and he would grab my bottom saying how nice I looked.”

The former bartender alleges the harassment didn’t stop there. She said a different manager would harass her about her weight.

“The commander was complaining about my size, the way I looked, calling me raggedy.”

Another former employee, Crystal Porterfield, said she witnessed how senior management would treat her fellow bartender.

“They called her a female dog. They’ve disrespected her face-to-face, cursed her out, treat her as if she’s dirt,” said Porterfield.

Porterfield said shortly after she began working, the former bartender called police about the harassment. She said once police arrived, they fired the bartender that night.

“She was pressing charges for prior, before I got there, sexual assault,” explained Porterfield. “And Mr. Griffin threatened to kick her butt right in front of the cops. Then the commander fired her, when the commander has no authority in the canteen.”

Porterfield and the bartender also claim to have been cheated out of their pay in recent months. They said they have proof they worked more than 100 hours, but were only paid for around 80 of them.

The alleged incidents are still under investigation, and the women have been advised to hire lawyers.
