Ladonna Brackens found not guilty on all charges

FAIRFIELD, TX (KXXV) - Ladonna Brackens has been found not guilty on all charges against her. She faced 1 count of sexual assault of a child and 2 counts of indecency with a child.

Ladonna Brackens was accused  of watching while Fairfield pastor Anthony Thibodeaux sexually assaulted a teenager. Thibodeaux was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison in December, 2013.

However, the Freestone County Jury acquitted Brackens Friday afternoon.

"It's just a sigh of relief. I just said thank you God for answering my prayers," Brackens said.

"When people that you love and people that you help and they turn on you and you don't know the reason why, it's very hurtful."

Charges were read to the jury and then closing arguments began Friday morning. The jury began deliberations about 10 a.m. to decide Brackens' guilt or innocence, and came down with the verdict just after 3:45 p.m. Friday.

During the closing arguments, the defense reiterated the victim lied about text messages to Thibodeaux because the assault didn't happen. While the state said the victim is a strong and respected person and is not a person who regularly lies.

Defense attorney David Moore says now Thibodeaux's trial may be looked into again. He said there was new evidence revealed in this trial that conceivably could help Thibodeaux.
