(PRWEB UK) 11 July 2014

As reported by the article in BBC News, dated 18 June 2014: eBay pulls sales of Chinese 'spyware phones', popular website eBay has banned the sale of a smartphone after it was discovered that the model in particular comes equipped with pre-installed spy software in its native Chinese factory. As disclosed by the German security firm, the model in question is Android-powered Star N9500, whose impossible to remove Trojan software was sending personal data to a server located in China. The spyware was disguised as an actual Google Play Store application. The device can still be found on Amazon, whose representatives could not be reached at the time of this writing. The spokesman for eBay said: Due to reports that some Star 9500 smartphones are loaded with spyware, eBay is not allowing the sale of these devices as a precautionary measure".

Despite the fact that Star smartphones are not exactly a household brand, the device was popular among the buyers due to its low price, and the fact that it resembled the Samsung Galaxy S4.
