Carjacker caught after crashing into tree Thursday afternoon

WACO, TX (KXXV) - Police have arrested a 22-year-old man who carjacked a woman in Waco Thursday afternoon, then crashed the car into a tree.

Ramon Sajar Jones has been charged with robbery, criminal trespass and evading on foot for the incident. The criminal trespass charge comes after he was previously warned away from the area before the carjacking.

At 1:30 p.m. Thursday, police say a 64-year-old woman was in the 1100 block of Calumet in Waco to visit a friend. Jones is accused of approaching her as she got out of her Buick LaSabre, and then pushing her to the ground. This injured the woman's wrist, arm and knee. She was evaluated and treated at the scene by ETMC.

Jones got in the car and sped away from the scene. An officer helping on the call was checking the North Waco area to find the stolen vehicle, when he saw Jones driving near the 1700 block of N. 4th.

Jones clipped another vehicle and crashed into a tree. Jones saw the officer approaching him, and he fled on foot. He was caught after a short foot chase and was arrested.
