WACO - Police have arrested a 36-year-old man accused of strangling and kicking his girlfriend after they got into an argument earlier this month.

Rodger Dale Sturdevant has been charged with assault by strangulation-family violence for an incident in the early morning hours of July 4th.

According to Sgt. Patrick Swanton, the crime occurred between the hours of midnight and 4 a.m., when Sturdevant and his girlfriend got into an argument. He allegedly refused to let the 36-year-old victim go, and when she tried to leave, he is accused of strangling her, and kicking her in the face and head.

The victim received what police called "significant" injuries to the face, head, chest, and arms. She finally was able to escape and was found by officers, who called an ambulance.

Sturdevant was gone from the area when police checked. Police got a warrant for Sturdevant, and he was picked up Wednesday, July 9.
