UPDATE: Authorities recover body at Lake Belton

The Bell County Sheriff's Office has confirmed they have recovered the body of a man they believe to be a possible drowning victim in Lake Belton Wednesday morning.

Rescue personnel were sent to Leona Park after a deputy patrolling near Lake Belton was flagged down by witnesses who said a boat was running in circles about 9:20 a.m. Wednesday. This was in the river channel, about a quarter mile north of the Long Bridge on Highway 36 at Leona Park.

The boat has been recovered, but no person was initially found. The search continued for several hours before they recovered the body from the lake.

The body was found at 12:50 p.m. within 20 feet of where the search began. He was pronounced dead and an autopsy has been ordered. The identity of the man has not yet been confirmed.

Emergency medical personnel were on scene, along with Parks & Wildlife personnel, sheriff's deputies, and the Morgan's Point Dive Team.
The investigation will be conducted by officers with the Parks & Wildlife Department.
