Teen charged with negligent homicide for March accident

Posted:
KILLEEN - Police have arrested an 18-year-old who was the driver during a one vehicle rollover accident, in which another 18-year-old was killed back in March.

Darrell Wayne Jones has been charged with criminally negligent homicide and his bond has been set at $1 million. A warrant was obtained for Jones and he was arrested following the investigation into the accident.

The rollover crash occurred at 2:41 a.m. on March 8, near John Rd. and Becker Dr., when police say the 2004 Land Rover Jones was driving left the roadway and rolled after he failed to negotiate the curve on Becker Dr.

There were five people in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Two passengers were thrown from the vehicle during the rollover, and two others stayed in the vehicle, but were injured. The driver, Darrell Jones, was uninjured.

Jacob Jones, 18, was one of the passengers ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to Scott & White Memorial Hospital with life threatening injuries. Jones succumbed to his injuries March 9, and was pronounced dead at 11:19 a.m.

The other passenger ejected was transported to the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center in critical condition, then subsequently transferred to Scott and White Memorial Hospital. Two other passengers inside the car were taken to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
