PORTLAND, Ore., July 8, 2014 /PRNewswire/ -- In recent years, EPA has been cracking down on storm-water violations at residential and commercial construction sites. Urbanized areas generally contain large portions of impervious surfaces such as roads, rooftops and parking lots that channel stormwater directly into local streams, rivers, and other water bodies.

StormCon is the world's largest surface water-quality event, drawing attendees from around the world every year to find cost-effective solutions to water pollution problems

Improperly managed stormwater runoff from urbanized areas can cause flooding and significant erosion, damage streams, and carry excessive nutrients, sediment, metals, volatile organic compounds, and other pollutants downstream. EPA's objective is to make it clear to the municipalities that they need to do a better job of implementing their programs for controlling stormwater runoff.

The StormCon program includes more than 160 educational sessions presented by the nation's leading stormwater experts and covers a range of material focusing on LID, Urban Retrofit, BMP case studies, Stormwater program management, NPDES, water-quality monitoring, Industrial Stormwater Management, Green Infrastructure to control storm events, and advanced research topics.

In addition, on the final day of the conference the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) representatives will discuss upcoming changes and developments in the national stormwater program and to answer questions from the audience.  Classes are filling up quickly, so don't wait-register today! Course descriptions and registration information can be found at www.stormcon.com

StormCon offers the unparalleled opportunity to learn from the very best in the field. With the increasingly urgent demand to protect our watersheds, the pollution prevention strategies and technologies being discussed and on display at StormCon should not be missed.

Participants will be key personnel from potentially impacted communities and organizations including Oregon DEQ/EPA, British Columbia, Environment Canada, NOAA, WA State Dept of Ecology, Office of Water Washington , DC,  Boulder, CO, Austin, TX, University of Kentucky, US Army Corps of Engineers, ASFPM Chapters and Associations, Washington Stormwater Center, and many others. You should join us there as well.
