Three year anniversary of Waco park murder victim

WACO, TX (KXXV) - It's a cold murder case that's stumped police for years after a woman's body turned up in a Waco park and the victim’s family is still in mourning.

Saturday marks the three year anniversary of Maria Victoria Serna death. Every year since 2011, her family meets at the park where she was killed to hold a candle light vigil.

Maria was shot in the head and her body was left in Bosque Park near the Lake Waco Dam.  Someone walking in the park found the 29-year-old's body.

Still no arrests have been made.

Now three years later, Maria’s mother Rosemary Hernandez says she has forgiven her daughters killer in her heart, but says they won't stop until they have answers.

"God as my witness, I have forgiven but I still want to know who did it and why,” says Hernandez. “What could she have done so bad that, that person had to take her life?"

Maria’s case remains cold. Police say there's very little evidence and they don't know of any witnesses.

The vigil is scheduled to begin Saturday at 8 p.m. in Bosque Park.

Maria's mother says she hopes the vigil and the coverage will jog someone's memory and generate a lead.

Hernandez says they won’t stop until they get justice for Maria.
