Police investigate ATM burglary from liquor store, one arrested

CAMERON, TX (KXXV) -

Cameron police have one person in custody in connection with an ATM robbery from a liquor store early Wednesday morning.

Police were called about a burglary alarm going off at Stoney's Liquor Store, in the 200 block of Milam St. in Cameron, at 3 a.m. Wednesday morning. Two people had pried open the front doors of the store to get in.

They then went to the ATM machine inside and pried open the cash door of the ATM and took cash. The suspects left the store and were picked up on the west side of the building, near the Cameron library, by a gray/silver 4-door sedan. Police say they were wearing ski masks, dark clothing, and carrying a pry/halligan tool, which was used to get into the store and open the ATM cash door.

Cameron police responded to the scene. About 20 minutes later, Rosebud police pursued a gray sedan with three people inside. Police arrested one person, while the two others fled on foot.

Police are not certain if the people in the car were the same ones from the burglary, but they are following up on this lead. Police continue to investigate the burglary. Police say there is a chance the same people were involved in a similar crime in Fayette County.

No one was injured during the burglary or pursuit.
