TEMPLE -
A Temple motorcycle officer and two others have been injured after a wreck on I-35 Thursday morning.

The wreck involved three vehicles and a police motorcycle on the northbound side of I-35, near mile marker 296. The motorcycle officer had pulled someone over Thursday morning, when police say a Chrysler was approaching the police traffic stop, and the driver tried to change lanes to give the officer more room.

While doing this, the Chrysler hit a Dodge pickup in the other lane, then took evasive action and spun out, hitting the officer and knocking him about 15 to 20 feet away. Then, the Dodge pickup hit the police motorcycle, and rolled twice.

The officer, identified as William Pettyjohn, was transported to Scott & White Hospital, with non-life threatening injuries, and police say he was alert and conscious. Two other people from the Dodge pickup were also taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Temple PD says that part of I-35 will be closed, with only one lane of northbound traffic getting through, until their traffic unit can complete their investigation and reconstruction of the scene. They advise drivers to take an alternate route if possible.
